Rising dramatically from the lush landscapes near Karjat, Kothaligad also known as Peth Fort is a small yet striking hill fort in the Sahyadris, famous for its unique pinnacle structure and panoramic views. Unlike expansive forts, Kothaligad stands out for its narrow rock formation that offers a short but thrilling climb to the top.
The trek begins from the base village of Ambivali and gradually ascends through scenic forest trails, rocky patches, and open plateaus. As you approach the summit, the trail leads into a fascinating rock-cut staircase carved inside the pinnacle itself one of the most distinctive features of this fort. Emerging at the top rewards trekkers with breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding valleys, nearby forts, and rolling Sahyadri ranges.
During the monsoon, the entire region transforms into a lush green paradise, with mist-covered trails, flowing streams, and a refreshing atmosphere that enhances the overall experience. In winter, the trek offers clear skies and equally stunning views, making it a year-round favorite.

Secondary pickup from Wakad-Hinjewadi Flyover (Near Sukhwani Indian Oil Petrol Pump). Settle in for a scenic morning drive. - 08:30 AM – Arrival at Base Village
Reach the picturesque base village nestled at the foothills of Kothaligad.
- 09:00 AM – Fuel Up & Freshen Up
Enjoy a warm, local breakfast and take some time to freshen up and prep your gear for the climb.
- 10:00 AM – The Ascent Begins
Commence the trek! Wind your way through lush trails, enjoying the crisp air and beautiful landscapes as we head toward the fort.
- 12:00 PM – Reach on Summit point
Reach the top of the majestic Kothaligad Fort (The Funnel Fort). Take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the Western Ghats.
- 12:00 PM – 01:00 PM – Explore & Relax
Spend an hour exploring the historic rock-cut caves, water cisterns, and internal fortifications. Capture memories and unwind at the peak.
- 01:00 PM – Begin the Descent
Start heading back down toward the base village via the same scenic route.
- 02:30 PM – Return to Base
Reach the base village and unwind after a rewarding trek.
- 03:00 PM – Hearty Local Lunch
Treat yourself to a delicious, authentic local lunch—the perfect reward after a day of hiking.
- 04:00 PM – Homeward Journey
Board the vehicle and begin the return journey to Pune, sharing stories and pictures along the way.
